This book is devoted to aspects of the foundations of quantum mechanics in which probabilistic and statistical concepts play an essential role. The main part of the book concerns the quantitative statistical theory of quantum measurement, based on the notion of positive operator-valued measures. To graduate students in mathematics or physics who are interested in the mathematical aspects of quantum field theory, this book is a good introductory text. It is also well suited for self-study and will provide readers a firm foundation of knowledge and mathematical techniques for reading more advanced books and current research articles in.
Quantum mechanics (QM; also known as quantum physics, quantum theory, the wave mechanical model and matrix mechanics), including quantum field theory, is a fundamental theory in physics describing the properties of nature on an atomic scale.. Classical physics, the description of physics that existed before the formulation of the theory of relativity and of quantum mechanics, describes many. The papers are organized under three main chapters: Foundations for Quantum Field Theory, Quantization of Field Theories, and Two-Dimensional Quantum Field Theories. An introduction, written by the editors, provides an overview of the main underlying themes that Location: Utrecht University, Utrecht, The Netherlands.
That, in essence, is a quantum field: the stuff out of which everything is made. It’s a boiling sea of random fluctuations, on top of which you can create quantized propagating waves that we call particles. I only wish, as a primarily visual thinker, that the usual introduction to quantum field theory didn’t look quite so much like this. Preface; List of contributors; Bibliography of P. A. M. Dirac; 1. Quantum Thermodynamics is a novel research field which explores the emergence of thermodynamics from quantum theory and addresses thermodynamic phenomena which appear in finite-size, non-equilibrium and finite-time contexts.
Blending together elements from open quantum systems, statistical mechanics, quantum many-body physics, and quantum information theory, it pinpoints thermodynamic advantages and barriers emerging from genuinely quantum properties such as quantum. In this paper we give a self contained introduction to the conceptional and mathematical foundations of quantum information theory.
In the first part we introduce the basic notions like entanglement, channels, teleportation etc. and their mathematical description. The second part is focused on a presentation of the quantitative aspects of the theory. Topics discussed in this context include Cited by: Quantum theory originated from experiments involving several aspects of electromagnetic energy and matter.
The study of blackbody radiation led to the idea of energy being quantized on an atomic level, which manifests itself in the line spectra of atoms. Ascribing a wave character to a moving particle led to the formulation of wave mechanics. Fundamental Aspects of Quantum Theory.

From the perspective of a preeminent researcher in the fundamental aspects of quantum mechanics, the text combines mathematical rigor with penetrating and concise language.
More than exercises introduce readers to the concepts and implications of quantum mechanics that have arisen from the experimental results of the recent two decades. Quantum Chemistry: An Introduction provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of quantum mechanics.
This book presents the theory of partial differentiation equations by using the classical theory of vibrations as a means of developing physical insight into. Quantum Theory of Atoms in Molecule (QTAIM) started off as a theory of energy partitioning, interpreting a chemical bond as a result of mononuclear parts interacting with each other.
The resulting book is a unique overview of the different approaches used for describing a chemical bond, including molecular-orbital based, valence-bond based, ELF, AIM and density-functional based methods.
An Introduction to Quantum Field Theory is a textbook intended for the graduate physics course covering relativistic quantum mechanics, quantum electrodynamics, and Feynman diagrams.
The authors make these subjects accessible through carefully worked examples illustrating the technical aspects of the subject, and intuitive explanations of what is going on behind the mathematics.4/5(10).
Quantum theory form this perspective turns out to the probability measure theory on the non-Boolean lattice of elementary observables and Gleason's theorem characterizes all these measures. Chapter 5 deals with some philosophical and interpretative aspects of quantum theory like hidden-variable formulations of QM.
We will begin by briefly overviewing several fundamental aspects of the quantum theory. Our study of the quantum theory, in this chapter and future ones, will be at an abstract level, without giving preference to any particular physical system such as a spin-1/2 particle or a photon.
